- The wine showcases the Souson variety's aromatic and complex profile, offering a delightful medley of cherry, cinnamon, lilac, violet, and wild red berries. These intricate notes unfold into a well-rounded palate, where a savoury touch adds depth and complexity to the overall tasting experience. Only the finest grapes were handpicked and meticulously sorted in the vineyard upon arrival at the winery. These exceptional grapes underwent a gentle skin-contact maceration at low temperatures to extract their rich aromas, flavours, and vibrant colour before being fermented in stainless steel tanks with wild yeasts. The wine was carefully tended to throughout the fermentation process with periodic pump-overs and cap punching to ensure optimal extraction. The wine was then aged in 500-litre French oak barrels for four months.

2018 saw a cold winter followed by a warm spring with low rainfall, favouring early budding and sprouting of the vines, advancing the cycle. The taller vines were spared from any frost damage during the April frosts. The summer weather was hot and extremely dry, allowing the grapes to mature and produce concentrated juice full of varietal characteristics.

Winery | The grapes come from the Esposende and Gomariz estate vineyards in the Avia River Valley, located in the D.O. Ribeiro in Spain's Galicia region. The D.O. is between the Rias Baixas to the west and Ribeira Sacra to the east. The vines for this wine are planted around Esposende and Gomariz municipalities on a combination of terraced plots known as solos and sloped plots orientated to maximize exposure to the sun. The soils in the region are granitic sands, known locally as sabrego, which warm up quickly and retain the heat. The Atlantic Ocean greatly influences the region, which has relatively high rainfall and humidity, although its inland location shelters it from the impact of Atlantic storms. High sunshine allows the grapes to reach excellent maturity levels; however, the characteristic high acidity from the cooler influences results in wines of great balance. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal maturity. |
