- It has an intense ruby-purple colour. The nose offers aromas of ripe red fruit and spices, especially black pepper and liquorice, and pleasant floral hints of violets. The palate is soft and supple, remarkably easy to drink, characterized by silky tannins and excellent freshness. A flavorful aftertaste of plum jam and notes of vanilla define the long and savoury finish.
With its warmer climate and a local variant of Sangiovese—Prugnolo—Vino Nobile offers a more prosperous, headier experience than Chianti to the north. The wines have been made for at least 1,200 years; Antinori joined the party in 1990 in a typically impressive style. The La Braccesca estate straddles Vino Nobile and the neighbouring appellation, Cortona, proving Italy’s most successful appellation for Syrah.
