- After 12 months of ageing in French oak barrels, this wine showcases a deep, vibrant ruby-red colour. You'll notice intense aromas of ripe red fruits on the nose, accompanied by refreshing balsamic hints reminiscent of the Mediterranean countryside. When you taste the wine, you'll experience a smooth and velvety entry that leads to a rich tapestry of flavours which persist throughout, ending with a delightfully fruity finish. Conte Ugo has an intense ruby-red colour, and its aroma is characterized by red fruits such as marasca cherries and raspberries, complemented by enticing hints of sweet spices and the fragrant essence of the Mediterranean landscape. The wine's tannins add a supple texture contributing to its overall palate complexity.

After the grapes were hand harvested and carefully selected on sorting tables, the berries were transferred into temperature-controlled stainless steel vats where alcoholic fermentation and maceration on the skins took place over about 20 days. Fermentation temperatures were managed based on the ripeness of the grapes: lower temperatures were applied to preserve and enhance aromatic freshness, while higher temperatures, up to 30 °C (86 °F), boosted the extraction of phenolic compounds and enhanced the structure. The different batches were divided according to their characteristics and then transferred into barriques. Malolactic fermentation was completed by the end of the year. The finest batches were blended and transferred back into barriques, 10% first fill and 90% second fill, for a further 12-month ageing period, then bottled. Cont’Ugo was left to age in the bottle for 3 months before being released for sale.

| Winery | Situated in Maremma on the Tuscan coast, sixty miles southwest of Florence, the Guado al Tasso estate extends from the green hills surrounding the old village of Bolgheri down to the sea. This beautiful plain is called the ‘Anfiteatro Bolgherese’ because the hills enclose the plains overlooking the sea to form a natural amphitheatre. The Bolgheri DOC started as rosé-only; whites were permitted in 1984, and ten years later, the laws finally recognized the extraordinary success of the mould-breaking Cabernet-based reds. From the 2007 vintage, Cabernet Franc has become an exceptional blending component for Guado al Tasso and a limited-edition single-variety bottling called Matarocchio. |
