- Pèppoli is a captivating ruby red wine that tantalizes the senses with its intense fragrance of red fruit. Upon pouring, the wine displays a mesmerizing ruby-red colour with alluring purple highlights. Its flavour profile is a delicate balance of floral undertones, hints of spices, and aromatic herbs, complemented by a subtle toasting sensation. The intense bouquet evokes a blend of cherries and red currants, accompanied by distinct notes of violets that are characteristic of Chianti Classico wines. These floral undertones gracefully intertwine with the smoky aromas derived from the oak ageing process, resulting in an evocative and refined sensory journey.

Cool nighttime temperatures coaxed perfectly healthy grapes to ideal ripeness, promising to be exceptional quality vintage. Pèppoli 2021 is ruby red with purplish highlights. Fresh citrusy notes of bitter oranges arise on the nose with fruity hints of plums. The delicate bouquet is completed with floral notes of hyacinth blossoms and spicy hints of unsweetened cocoa powder. A mouth-filling entry on the palate is sustained by lively freshness and supple tannins, leading to a flavorful and pleasant finish.
Maceration was performed with mechanical methods to best extract soft, supple tannins over 10-12 days for Sangiovese and for a maximum of two weeks for the complementary varieties. Once malolactic fermentation was completed by the end of the winter season, the wine was blended and transferred into barrels. Peppoli was aged in large Slavonian oak barrels, and a small percentage was aged in barriques and stainless steel vats. Bottling began in October 2022.

Winery | The Antinori family have been producing wine in Tuscany for over six centuries and exporting it for four, spanning twenty-seven generations of uninterrupted family ownership … and counting. The first recorded mention of the family dates back to 1180 when they worked in the silk trade. Winemaking was added to the family’s activities in 1385, and during the sixteenth century, the wines spread, along with Antinori’s reputation, to France, Flanders, Spain and North Africa. The purchase of the Tignanello estate in the mid-1800s marked the beginning of a remarkable period of expansion. Since then, through judicious acquisition of vineyards and an uncanny knack for developing iconic wines, Antinori has become Tuscany’s – arguably Italy’s – pre-eminent wine producer. Some of the wines – Badia a Passignano, Pèppoli, Tignanello and Solaia – are each the product of a single estate, while Villa Antinori and the Vin Santo are blends of selected lots from several of the family’s vineyards, including the flagship Tenuta Tignanello site |
