- Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2020 is ruby red. The nose delivers notes of cherries, cotton candy, and floral hints of violets and blood orange juice. Rust notes and delicate aromas of agarwood complete the bouquet. On the palate, a velvety entry broadens into a flavorful, persistent sensation, bringing forth spicy notes of tobacco and dark chocolate.
The grapes were destemmed and gently crushed, then transferred into stainless steel vats where alcoholic fermentation occurred at a controlled temperature that did not exceed 28 - 30 °C (82 - 86 °F). Maceration on the skins lasted for approximately 10-14 days using controlled automated techniques to gently extract aromas, structure, and supple tannins. Sangiovese underwent malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats, while several other grape varieties went into second and third-fill barriques. The various lots were blended and continued to age in oak, predominantly in larger format barrels and a smaller percentage in barriques, until spring 2022. Bottling began in August 2022.

Winery | The Antinori family have been producing wine in Tuscany for over six centuries and exporting it for four, spanning twenty-seven generations of uninterrupted family ownership … and counting. The first recorded mention of the family dates back to 1180 when they worked in the silk trade. Winemaking was added to the family’s activities in 1385, and during the sixteenth century, the wines spread, along with Antinori’s reputation, to France, Flanders, Spain and North Africa. The purchase of the Tignanello estate in the mid-1800s marked the beginning of a remarkable period of expansion. Since then, through judicious acquisition of vineyards and an uncanny knack for developing iconic wines, Antinori has become Tuscany’s – arguably Italy’s – pre-eminent wine producer. Some of the wines – Badia a Passignano, Pèppoli, Tignanello and Solaia – are each the product of a single estate, while Villa Antinori and the Vin Santo are blends of selected lots from several of the family’s vineyards, including the flagship Tenuta Tignanello site |
