- This wine has superb fruit and spice aromas with an oaky note on the nose. It is intense, full, and yet delicate on the palate, with a charming velvetiness. It has been aged for 12 to 14 months in French oak, with 40 to 40% new oak. This wine has very good ageing potential. The name "Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus" refers to an old story. According to the story, Marguerite du Saint Sacrement, the founding Carmelite of the "domestiques de la famille du Saint Enfant Jesus," predicted the birth of the king of France, Louis XIV, even though her mother, Anne of Austria, was sterile. On the birth of the future "Roi Soleil," this exceptional vineyard, which belonged to the Carmelites, took on the name "Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus." In 1791, when all national property was sold, Bouchard Pere & Fils bid for the vineyard in the heart of the 32 hectares of the Beaune Greves appellation, of which it still has the monopoly today.
Intense and tightly wound, this red displays a laser beam of cherry and berry fruit with an underlying mineral element and a steely structure. It's concentrated and long, yet needs time to reveal all its facets. Beaune 1er Cru Les Greves Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus unwinds in the glass with notes of plums, cassis, loamy soil, black truffle, spices, and incense. Medium to full-bodied, velvety, and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with bright acids, ultra-refined tannins, and a long, penetrating finish. This is the latest in a series of superb renditions of this cuvée, and it may be the finest.

Winery | The name, which translates as “Vine of Baby Jesus”, refers to an old story. It is said that Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement, Carmelite founder of the “domestiques de la Famille du Saint Enfant Jesus”, predicted the birth of King Louis XIV of France. However, his mother, Anne of Austria, was barren. Nine months after the prediction, on 5 September 1638, the future Louis XIV was born. The reputation of Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement then spread throughout the land, and donations were poured in. In this atmosphere of fervent giving, the Carmelites received a renowned vineyard named “Vigne de l’Enfant-Jesus” (Vine of Baby Jesus). EXPOSITION: East-Southeast |
