Before the establishment of the California wine industry, Buena Vista took its place as a pioneer. Established in 1857, it stands as California’s inaugural premium winery, characterized by a rich and proud history. Its founder, "Count" Agoston Haraszthy, introduced Vitis vinifera to California and erected the original stone winery that continues to be central to Buena Vista. One of California’s original wineries has transformed into one of its most distinguished, focusing on producing wines suited to cool climates in Carneros and Sonoma.

Winery | Founded in 1857 by the self-proclaimed ‘Count of Buena Vista’ Agoston Haraszthy, Buena Vista pioneered the production of high-quality wines in California. Here, he introduces groundbreaking viticultural practices such as dry farming, hillside planting, and constructing California’s first gravity-fed winery. Following several changes in ownership, the historic winery was purchased in 2011 by the Boisset family from Burgundy. Under Jean-Charles Boisset, the winery has undergone extensive renovation, and the Count’s original vision is being pursued with renewed vigour. |
