Coates & Seely
In 2008, two old friends, Nicholas Coates and Christian Seely, embarked on a quest. They had between them successful careers in finance and winemaking, an unshakeable belief, and a burning desire to make, one day, a sparkling wine to rival the best in the world. Their adventure drew them to the ancient chalk downlands of Hampshire, in Southern England, to a secluded valley nestling quietly in the hills, where the chalk soils and south-facing slopes presented the perfect terroir. They planted vines and began their craft. A decade later, their award-winning sparkling wines are listed in royal palaces, Michelin-starred restaurants and iconic houses worldwide. Former winners of Best Overall Wine, Best Sparkling Wine, Best Blanc de Blancs and Best Sparkling Rosé at the UK Wine Awards.
Hoffmann & Rathbone
Hoffmann & Rathbone is a boutique winery located in England’s Sussex-Weald region. Husband-and-wife Ulrich Hoffmann and Birgit Rathbone founded it passionately about crafting artisanal wines. Ulrich Hoffmann has a wealth of winemaking and viticultural expertise, having spent 22 years working around the world, from the prestigious Rolf-Willy estate in Baden-Württemberg to Chateaux de Fieuzal and Haut-Gardére in Bordeaux, Artadi in Navarra, and Cain Vineyards in the Napa Valley. He may have continued had he not fallen in love with the Sussex countryside and its cool climate, which offers ideal conditions to produce delicious sparkling wines. Following an ethos that the perfect sparkling wine cannot be rushed, they focus on precision and passion and combine traditional methods with a modern, minimalistic approach, creating tiny volumes aged for long periods with care and patience. Hoffmann & Rathbone has proved that English sparkling wine is now on par in terms of quality, with the best sparkling wines in the world, never imitating, but with that quirky English personality of doing things differently.
Simpsons Wine Estate
Charles and Ruth Simpson have made award-winning wines in the South of France since 2002. In 2012, attracted by the quality of the terroir and the opportunity to become part of one of the most dynamic wine-producing regions in the world, they brought their expertise back to the UK, establishing Simpsons Wine Estate. To produce the finest quality English wine, they gradually planted 30 hectares of vineyards on the iconic chalk terroir of the North Downs and built a state-of-the-art winery. They are members of Sustainable Wines of Great Britain. In 2016, the Simpsons saw their first harvest. With a strong focus on provenance, they produce a highly acclaimed range of exclusively estate-grown still and sparkling wines, including the Chalklands Classic Cuvée 2016, which won a gold medal in the 2019 Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships.
