France continues to exemplify exceptional value in the realm of entry-level sparkling wines. The Duc de Breux presents a remarkably crisp, clean, and savoury profile at an unmatched price point. At the same time, the Charles de Fère showcases an elegant, bottle-fermented offering from a vineyard situated a mere twenty miles from the Champagne region. Renewed interest in Crémant is evidenced by the Caves de Marigny Brut Réserve, which emerged as the top performer in our comprehensive tasting of sparkling wines from various regions across France.
Continuing to show the way, French Sparkling Wine offers astonishing, crisp, clear value. France still leads the way with great entry-level fizz, with astonishingly crisp, clean, and savoury wines that give excellent value for money.
Cremant de Limoux
Dopff au Moulin
Established in Riquewihr in 1574, the Dopff family has dedicated itself to producing fine Alsatian wine for over 13 generations. A pioneering family, they were responsible for the stemmed wine bottles, which still distinguish Alsace wines from other regions today. In 1900, tenth-generation Julien Dopff was so impressed by the Champagne tastings held in Paris that he learnt the art of winemaking in Champagne for two years before returning to Alsace. After WWII, Julien Dopff strongly believed that a Crémant made from local grape varieties, which reflected the terroir of Alsace, should be protected. In 1976, with five other producers, Dopff finally obtained official recognition for Crémant d'Alsace as an AOC. Their 70-hectare vineyard is situated at 300 metres elevation, nestled in the Vosges Mountains' foothills; since 2020, they have held the HVE certification for sustainability.
Mirabeau
After years of dreaming, Jeany and Stephen decided to leave behind the leafy suburbs of South London in exchange for Provence's blue skies and sunshine. Armed with big ambitions to make a world-class rosé wine and willing to challenge established wisdom, they founded Maison Mirabeau. They embarked upon the ultimate family adventure and created one of the world’s most-loved rosé brands. Over the past 11 years, their close relationships with growers have allowed access to over 2,000 hectares of premium Provence vineyards, from which talented winemaker Guillaume Cordonis skilfully blends distinguished rosé wines. With sustainability at the heart of everything they do, Maison Mirabeau is a Certified B Corp. Their wines capture the joie de vivre and elegance of the French Riviera while conveying Provence's quality, terroir and unique heritage.
