- Chateau Montaiguillon is a twenty-eight-hectare family-run property that has been in the hands of the Amart family since 1949; third-generation Chantal Amart is currently in charge. An expressive nose of roasted plums, fresh blackcurrants, and tobacco leads to a full yet taut palate typical of this successful vintage.

The 2020 Montaiguillon has one of the appellation’s more understated bouquets, perhaps due to a little reduction that it could not shake off. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit and fine acidity, and what it lacks in length is compensated by freshness. I suspect that the aromatics will open by the time of bottling and will end up a fine Montagne Saint-Émilion.

Winery | Montaiguillon’s 2020 is another resounding success, continuing a string of excellent vintages at the estate. It is a deep ruby colour with notes of spiced plums, cassis and blackberries on the nose. A savoury, graphite note is woven through the juicy, sumptuous palate. Its rounded tannins are already integrated with the plump fruit, and the finish has a fresh, balanced length, which you’d expect from wines with much bigger price tags. |
