2011 Charmes-Chambertin: (from a 1.4 ha parcel of roughly 20-year-old vines situated one-third in Charmes proper and the remainder in Mazoyères). In contrast to the reduction in the prior wines, this is quite aromatically lovely with its expressive nose of fresh red berry fruit, earth and humus scents. The same kinds of fine-grained tannins underpin the opulent yet reasonably precise medium-weight flavours culminating in a balanced, persistent, if slightly less complex, finish.
