- An enticing nose of concentrated, ripe red berry fruits, enhanced by subtle black pepper and spice notes. Supple and rounded on the palate, supported by a delicate tannic structure. An exceptionally early harvest, low yields and high quality characterise the 2022 vintage, where each parcel expressed itself differently. The 2022 vegetative season started with a slightly early bud burst and a rainfall deficit, for which the dry and mild spring and the early, hot and dry summer never compensated. A stormy episode in mid-August helped to refresh the vines; the Mistral wind that blew afterwards helped to keep the vines healthy. The fruit was harvested at peak ripeness, and the 2022 wines are endowed with rich colour and good ageing potential.
The grapes were fully destemmed. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled concrete tanks, with maceration lasting 25 days. Gentle extraction techniques, such as pumping over or ‘remontage,’ were used to retain the purity of fruit and obtain the velvety tannins characteristic of Domaine de la Solitude. The wine was matured 100% in concrete tanks, as per the region's traditional vinification.

Winery | Wines have been made on this estate for several hundred years, dating back to 1264 when the family arrived from Italy to serve the pope in Avignon. The three hats on the label signify two bishops and a pope among the Lançon family's forefathers. The 38-hectare domain in the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation is now run by Florent Lançon, who cultivates the estate sustainably, as certified by Terra Vitis. Florent, passionate about innovative winemaking while honouring traditional values, has recently started working with new tulip-shaped concrete vats initially designed for Cheval Blanc and are at the cutting edge of winemaking technology. Domaine de la Solitude’s wines are renowned for their characteristic elegance whilst expressing the true origins of their terroir. The Cotes du Rhone vineyards are situated mainly in Gard. Over 50% of the grapes come from the Cotes du Rhone Villages vineyards and the remainder from the named Plan de Dieu and Rasteau parcels. The grapes used to make this wine are grown in the stony, limestone, and clay terroirs typical of the southern Rhone Valley. |
