- A beautifully textured, ripe, full-bodied wine delivers rich red and black fruits, chocolate, and a subtle hint of spice. It is simple and elegant with a layered mouthfeel, notes of Morello cherry, and a hint of chocolate on the velvety finish. 2021 is characterised as an old-style vintage with beautiful ageing potential. There was more fear than damage in the vineyards in 2021; the windy climate and proximity of the Rhône River meant the vines escaped the spring frost. Summer was marked by some short but hot episodes and rain at the beginning of August, which spared the vines water stress. Cool summer nights extended the ripening cycle, and the harvest was late. Stormy episodes around the Autumn Equinox changed harvesting patterns. The 2021 wines show lower alcohol, intense colour and balancing freshness.
The grapes were hand-harvested into 25-kg crates to protect the quality of the fruit, followed by a second selection and manual sorting before being crushed and partially destemmed. The fruit was transferred to the concrete fermentation vats via gravity. With gentle extraction techniques, a long maceration took place to obtain opulent fruit characteristics and fine, velvety tannins. Approximately 65% of this wine was aged in oak barrels and demi-muids for 20 months, with the remainder matured in concrete vats. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

Winery | The Grenache comes from the best parcels of old vines planted on the high Quaternary alluvial terraces surrounding the estate. This Domaine has one of the best terroirs in Chateauneuf-du-Pape with its abundance of rounded quartzite stones, known as "Galet Roules" terroir from the Villafranchian period. These stones absorb heat during the day and then radiate it at night, promoting full grape maturity and imparting great tannic and aromatic power. The grapes are manually harvested once each variety has reached phenological ripeness, based on grape tastings by an expert panel. The grape bunches are then meticulously sorted to ensure only the best quality fruit is vinified. |
