- Complex and balanced with spicy, chocolate, and floral notes surrounding a core of crunchy black fruit. Stunning, elegant and well-structured with polished tannins, the Malbec gives the volume for a lengthy and persistent finish. 2019 was an exceptional vintage in terms of quality. It was a slightly cooler vintage than average but with typical rainfall. December and January experienced peaks of high temperatures, and due to the shortage of rain in February and March, the grapes were exceptionally healthy. The harvest conditions were the best in decades, allowing the grapes to be picked at the desired maturity.
The grapes were gently destemmed without crushing. Each variety was vinified separately and underwent cold maceration in stainless steel tanks to extract the primary aromas. Once fermentation was complete, the wines were blended. Maturation lasted for 16 months in French oak barrels, of which 20% were new.
It is a complex, beautifully balanced wine with spicy and floral notes from the Cabernet Franc and vibrant red fruit notes from the Malbec. It is elegant and well-structured, with polished tannins that give a long, persistent finish.

Winery | Dona Paula 1350 comes from two blocks (No.10 and No.7) in the Alluvia vineyard, which is located in Gualtallary, at 1,350 metres above sea level. The sandy soil has alluvial and calcareous stones; the calcium carbonate content ranges from medium to very high, with caliche present in very old soils, where the vine vigour is reduced, resulting in concentrated flavours in the grapes. The Uco Valley is renowned for its warm days and cool nights and has an average temperature variation of 12.5 °C. This encourages a long, slow ripening period where the grapes gradually produce rich fruit flavours balanced by fresh acidity and pronounced aromatics. The average annual rainfall is 280 millimetres. Snow-melt water and drip irrigation systems nourish the espalier-trained vines, yielding 10 tonnes per hectare. At Dona Paula, the vineyards have always been managed using sustainable agricultural practices and the grapes are manually harvested. The blend comprises a small quantity of Casavecchia, an extremely rare red grape from Campania, Italy. Casavecchia has high levels of anthocyanins, imparting its wines with deep colours and strong, supple tannins. |
