- Lush aromas of ripe blackberry, kirsch, and plum sauce are intoxicating, while richness and freshness on the palate make this Bennett Valley vineyard irresistible. Although heavily influenced by concentrated dark fruit, like other wines in the Donelan portfolio, a beautiful mix of exotic spice and spring flowers provides a stunning contrast and adds complexity to this remarkable single-vineyard.
- The 2017 Cushing’s Block from Barbed Oak Vineyard in Bennett Valley shines again. Our longer hang time at this early ripening site led to a more balanced and complex wine.
Black cherry, pomegranate, potter’s clay, and damp moss jump from the glass. Juicy orange peel, cinnamon stick, wet river rock, and freshly bailed hay build on the palate. There is a great interplay between acid and tannin and good freshness.
Contributing to our Cushing’s Block Pinot, the Pommard clone’s elegance and grace create a fitting counterpoint to the interplay between Calera and Swan selections’ darkness and depth. The Swan selection gives us aromatic lift and spice without overt ripeness. These clones are known for their “hens and chicks” clusters, carrying a mix of normal and dime-sized berries that bring many of our favourite characteristics to the wine—a winemaker’s dream.
