- Traditional and savoury Rioja blend of ripe strawberry fruit with beautifully integrated vanilla, leather and coconut flavours.A smooth and rounded traditional Rioja blend of red berried fruits and beautifully integrated oaky notes of subtle spice and vanilla. 2021 saw a relatively smaller harvest than the previous two years. Mild winter weather and a warm, wet spring challenged the vineyard. The harvest took place under good conditions, and although yields were lower than in previous years, the quality was high, and the official rating for the 2021 vintage was ‘Very Good’.
The grapes were fermented at controlled temperatures of 28°C in stainless steel tanks with carefully selected yeasts. The malolactic conversion occurred in concrete vats, followed by 12 months of barrel ageing in 225-litre oak casks, of which 65% were American oak, and 35% were French Allier oak. The barrels ranged from brand new to seven years, imparting complexity to the resulting wine. The wine was gently fined and filtered before receiving 10 months’ bottle ageing before release.
This is a smooth and rounded traditional Rioja blend of red berry fruits and beautifully integrated oaky notes of subtle spice and vanilla.

| Winery | The fruit for Hugonell Crianza comes from vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, Rioja Alta, and a little from Rioja Oriental. The average age of the vines is approximately 15 years. The soil patterns in the vineyards are a combination of the well-known limestone-clay-alluvial mixture found in most of Central Rioja. Rioja has many different styles, from the traditional strawberry, oaky Bordeaux-influenced wines to some of the more modern, lighter styles. We searched for the best of both worlds – a fruit-driven modern style of wine at the Joven level and more concentrated, typical flavours in the Crianza and Reserva levels. Carefully selected growers from this area produce the Hugonell Joven. The Ondarre winery, located 10km from Rioja’s capital of Logrono, is the specialist division of The Bodegas Olarra Group for producing Crianza and Reserva wines. We are delighted to offer this unique trio of wines with their original, distinctive packaging. |
