- Perfumed aromas of melon, ripe pineapple, and lemon combine with toasty butterscotch notes. Opulent, with a richly oaked texture, beautiful balance, and spicy minerality on the finish. 2022 was characterised as a late ripening year in general. Slightly higher temperatures and rainfall were observed in the autumn, replenishing groundwater after a hot, dry summer. Winter was mild without extremely low temperatures and no snow, although pruning was delayed due to rainfall at the beginning of January. Low temperatures in March delayed bud break by 15 days, but spring progressed with high rainfall and normal temperatures, promoting growth. Flowering was delayed by one week, taking place in mid-May. Average summer temperatures prevailed without extreme weather phenomena. Chardonnay was picked on 12th August.
Cold skin-contact maceration took place at the beginning of the vinification increasing the varietal aromatics. Fermentation took place in French oak barrels; followed by maturation on the fine lees in medium-toasted French oak for seven months, which enhanced the creaminess and rich texture of this wine.

Winery | The Chardonnay vines have been cultivated on the estate since 1983. The soil is mainly sandy, with some clayey substrates and calcareous rocks. It is rich in sea fossils, as sea deposits formed the surrounding hilly area. The climate in the region of Epanomi is Mediterranean, with mild winters and hot summers tempered by sea breezes, as the sea surrounds the vineyard on three sides. This is a low-yielding vineyard, which is meticulously cultivated in compliance with ecologically sustainable management practices. The vineyard is managed by hand, including the harvest. Ktima Gerovassiliou is Evangelos Gerovassiliou's brainchild. In 1981, he initiated the revival of the family vineyard by planting the nearly extinct Malagousia. This state-of-the-art winery is now surrounded by 80 hectares of meticulously well-cared and certified sustainable vineyards on the slopes of Epanomi. Ktima Gerovassiliou guarantees consistent, high-quality wines of international acclaim yearly, and his Malagousia remains the benchmark. |
