The Mount Langi Ghiran Grampians Mast Shiraz 2020 is a truly remarkable wine, showcasing the stunning characteristics of the Grampians region in Victoria, Australia. This single-vineyard Shiraz is crafted from the select fruit of House Block 4, delivering a wine that is both supple and concentrated. With layers of dark forest fruits mingling with subtle notes of mocha, cigar box, and a delicious earthiness, it provides a complex and refined drinking experience. The mouth-coating tannins lead to an incredibly long finish, leaving a lasting impression on the palate.
The 2020 vintage, a cooler year with below-average yields, was marked by a prolonged growing season, which enhanced the wine’s complexity with spiced notes, ripe red fruit, and a natural acidity. While the Langi Shiraz was not produced in 2020 due to less-than-ideal ripening conditions in some blocks, the Mast Shiraz from House Block 4 offers an exceptional reflection of the season’s unique characteristics. | Winery | The Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard is 350 metres above sea level and set between the namesake Mount Langi Ghiran (922m) and Mount Cole (760m). The mountains create a cooling effect as cold air tumbles down and into the valley. The shadow cast shortens the effective sunshine hours in autumn, extending grape ripening and contributing natural acidity and intense fruit flavours. Mountain erosion over time has created a unique profile of granite sands over sedimentary red clay loam. The texture of this soil profile is ideal for moderating the natural vigour of the Shiraz vine, contributing to the subtle spicy pepper flavour for which Mount Langi Ghiran has become renowned. The vines have an average age of 25 years and are Swiss and PT23 clones, with the majority on their own rootstocks. |
