Winemaker’s Story

Founded in 1921 by the pioneering winemaker Maurice O’Shea, Mount Pleasant is one of Australia's most historic wine estates. This Semillon is made from grapes grown in the estate's oldest parcels, benefiting from dry, cool spring conditions that allowed for longer ripening and increased complexity. January and February brought ideal ripening weather, leading to a clean, balanced harvest that is now showing the hallmark finesse of aged Hunter Valley Semillon.

Perfect Pairings

Ideal with seafood dishes like grilled prawns, oysters, or delicate white fish. Also complements light vegetarian fare, creamy sauces, and fresh salads.

Customer Reviews

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "A stunning Semillon – bright citrus, subtle minerality, and incredible length. Worth every penny." – James T., Verified Buyer
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Fantastic value for an aged white. Perfect with seafood and a standout on the dinner table." – A. Morgan

The grapes were hand-harvested in the cool of the early morning to preserve their freshness. The grapes were destemmed and taken to the press, where only 500 litres per tonne of the finest free-run juice was taken. The juice was settled, racked, and cold-fermented with selected yeasts for 14 days. The wine was chilled and fined prior to bottling. The bottles were then cellar-aged for five years before release, promoting complexity and texture.

Classic citrus characters of lime and lemongrass are predominant with a wonderful intensity and purity. An elegant yet intense palate of pure Semillon fruit providing great line and length.

Inspired by the first visit of a reigning monarch to Australia in 1954, the 'Cellar Aged Elizabeth' is the result of the synergy achieved by combining the noble grape variety Semillon and the Hunter Valley terroir. The Semillon grapes are grown in the estate vineyards in the Pokolbin subregion of the Hunter Valley. The vineyard is cultivated using sustainable techniques, such as employing mulch to nourish the vines and growing cover crops to increase the biodiversity in the soil. This sustainable approach has resulted in some of the healthiest vines on the estate in recent years; the vines have developed plentiful canopies, which have assisted in preventing fruit sunburn. The grapes are hand-harvested.
