  • The wine exhibits a complex aroma characterized by a captivating blend of intense red and black fruits, accentuated by subtle spice notes. It showcases classic red fruit flavours on the palate, impeccably balanced with refined tannins, leading to a captivating and lingering finish. The preceding growing season was marked by arid conditions, resulting in the early emergence of buds; however, a cool spring impeded growth, causing the fruit to ripen two to three weeks later than the norm. December experienced warm weather and average precipitation, fostering healthy and pristine vine canopies, thus creating ideal conditions for fruit ripening. Subsequently, the months of January and February witnessed significantly lower rainfall, ensuring uniform ripening and allowing the grapes to be harvested at optimal maturity.

The flagship wine of Mount Pleasant, the Maurice O'Shea Shiraz, is only made in exceptional vintages. It is a blend of the best fruit from the oldest vineyards: the fruit comes from the Old Hill, Old Paddock, Rosehill 1946 and 1965 vines, which are old and low-yielding and produce concentrated flavours. The Old Hill vines were the first block purchased by Maurice O'Shae and some vines were planted in 1880, they are some of the oldest in the Hunter Valley and produce exceptionally intense wines. The Old Paddock was planted in the 1920s, producing high-quality fruit with good aspects for protection from the hot, humid summers. The typical red volcanic soils are ideal for Shiraz. The Rosehill Shiraz is planted on a hillside with a good northerly aspect, receiving plenty of sunlight, which is perfect for ripening, and the vineyard produces earthy, savoury flavours. The Pinot Noir comes from the MV6 clone, which is significant as it is an original planting of MV6, one of Australia's oldest clones of Pinot Noir.

Mount Pleasant, based in the Hunter Valley, was established in 1921 by the legendary winemaker Maurice O’Shea from 16.3 hectares of adjoining parcels of land, which he named Mount Pleasant. As Chief Winemaker, Maurice went on to make some of Australia’s greatest wines and his reputation stands as the grandfather of Australian wine and a pioneer of the industry. Sadly, Maurice O’Shea passed away in 1956, but top-class winemakers have continued his legacy. In 2017, James Halliday was named Mount Pleasant Winery of the Year. In 2018, award-winning winemaker Adrian Sparks took over as the fifth Chief Winemaker and continues producing world-class wines from this renowned estate.
