- This wine displays a tightly wound profile in its early stages, gradually evolving to reveal delicate floral notes, nuanced wet stone aromas, sweet melon, and hints of vanilla. It exhibits a textured, rich, and tense palate and represents Chenin Blanc, culminating in a saline finish. Climatic conditions in the respective year comprised reduced winter precipitation in contrast to the prior season, followed by a warm and dry spring, facilitating a prompt and uniform budburst. Veraison commenced early in December, culminating swiftly and uniformly. Historical data indicates dry yet mild January weather, enabling optimal vine functionality and resulting in an exceptionally early harvest. The 2020 whites boast outstanding quality characterized by vibrant natural acidity.
The grapes were whole-bunch pressed, settled overnight, and racked to 1,500-litre foudres for fermentation and maturation. Once fermentation was complete, the wine remained on the lees for the duration of its 10-month maturation in foudre. The wines were racked and prepared for bottling in January of the following year.
Mineral in profile, this wine is tightly wound in its youth, slowly maturing over time to release delicate floral notes, wet stone nuances, sweet melon and vanilla overtones. Textured, rich and tense on the palate, this is a superlative example of Chenin Blanc with a saline finish.

Winery | The grapes come from the Single Vineyard Block W, located in the Rustenhof area of Stellenbosch. Cambrian Cape granite is a duplex soil with a marked textural contrast between the coarse sandy topsoil and the clay-enriched subsoil. The clay subsoil offers good water retention properties, which help to nourish the vines during the hot summers. The vineyard is just 2.5 miles from the sea, and vines are grown at 65 to 70 metres. The sea breezes have a cooling influence on the vines, imbuing the grapes with a natural acidity that balances the ripe, concentrated flavours the grapes reach in this warm, sunny climate. |
