Guide to choose wines

Every celebration and occasion calls for some delectable wines. Whether it is a wedding, anniversary, birthday, or retirement party, you can easily find people indulging in some flavourful, rich wines. They come in various flavours and colours; therefore, you must choose your wine wisely as per the occasion. Some wines lose their flavour with time, while others get better with age. That is why it’s imperative to make sure you pair the wine with the right food.

Below, we have discussed how to choose a wine for different occasions!

Weddings

Celebratory beverages, like Champagne or Prosecco, are ideal for a wedding party. They have different taste palettes, with Champagne having a dry taste and Prosecco edging on the sweeter side.

Once you have finalised the food menu, determine what wine works best with every food item. Ensure the wine flavour complements the food flavour and does not suppress it. For instance, since Champagne is highly acidic, serve it with food like grilled chicken, pickled vegetables, crispy fried chips, oysters, and so forth. Asian dishes, fruit-based appetisers, and cured meats taste better with Prosecco.

Anniversaries and birthdays

If you plan to celebrate a milestone, like a wedding anniversary, you can get a wine bottle that dates back to the year you married your partner. If you plan to cater heavy food, like red meat, to your guests, serve a crisp wine that can increase their appetite. With the main meal, you can serve rich wines, like French red wine. However, choose a white wine if you plan to serve lighter food.

Similarly, get a wine from your birth year to celebrate your birthday. However, ordering older wines can be challenging, and not every wine gets better with time. That is why you should choose wines that get better with age, such as Riesling or Bordeaux.

A date night

Good wine and romance often go hand in hand. However, choose your wine wisely, as you do not want to get sloshed as soon as you start talking. A bottle of Prosecco or Champagne is an ideal choice to accompany your romantic banter.

Finally, when you start your meal, you can choose from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. If you will be eating a spicy meal, choose crisp wines, like Riesling, that excel with spicy foods. However, if you’re in the mood for a richer meat dish, order red wine.

If you wish to impress your date, choose a limited-edition wine. That very often does the trick!
