  • An extraordinary white wine made entirely from the rare Maturana Blanca grape, this is refreshing, with lovely texture and yet spectacular tension. Notes of apple, pear and quince are layered with hints of salinity, herbs and a touch of beeswax.

Hand-harvested at optimum phenolic ripeness, the grapes underwent a light pressing without destemming. Inert fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts at controlled temperatures. The wine was aged on the fine lees for a minimum of 36 months in stainless steel tanks with regular bâtonnage to give it a fuller mouthfeel, protect it from oxidation and keep sulphur levels low.

Maturana Blanca is one of Rioja's first-mentioned varieties, appearing in texts as early as 1622. Despite this, Maturana Blanca lost popularity and
was on the brink of extinction due to a decline in cultivation. Fortunately, the early-ripening Maturana Blanca is returning due to a growing interest in indigenous grape varieties. She is garnering attention for its complex wines with high natural acidity. The grapes for this wine come from a single plot, Finca La Nevera, covering 4.3 hectares in the upper Iregua Valley. The vines are planted at 680 and 750 metres, where the cooling microclimate encourages a long hang time and builds natural acidity in the grapes. The upper layers of the soil are from sandy-siliceous colluvium rocks; the mid-layer comprises siliceous sands mixed with a light layer of clay, and the lower layers are clay, which offers the vines good water retention properties. This soil combination lends freshness, silkiness, and longevity to the wine.
