  • The Barbaresco is expressive with sweet notes of red fruits, classic floral aromas, and dried herbs. It has a velvety palate with a slightly dry finish typical of Nebbiolo. After fermentation, the wine matured for an additional four months, preserving the purity of the Pelee Island fruit. The 2020 vintage started with a mild winter and little rainfall. Spring was dry and sunny at first, suggesting an early vintage. However, May and June were rainy, slowing development but providing abundant soil and water reserves for the summer. The standout feature of the 2020 vintage was the ideal climate in September, which was mild and dry, allowing the grapes to grow healthily and reach perfect ripeness.

Fermentation occurred with wild and selected yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with lees stirring to impart complexity and texture. The wine was aged in wood for 22 months in a combination of small barriques and large 50-hl oak casks; the proportions vary with the vintage to allow the Nebbiolo characteristics to be fully expressed. It was bottle-aged for a minimum of 12 months before release.

An expressive Barbaresco with appealing notes of sweet red fruits, classic florals, and dried herbs, it has a velvety palate and a slightly dry finish typical of Nebbiolo.

The Nebbiolo grapes for this blend come from six small parcels scattered over Treiso, Barbaresco, and Neive villages in the Barbaresco DOCG. Depending on the parcel, the vineyards face east, south, and west and are planted at 200 to 400 meters. The Guyot-trained vines were planted between 1980 and 2004 at a density of 5,000 vines per hectare. Generally, the terroir comprises sandstone and blue marl derived from an ancient seabed that flowed under the vineyards millions of years ago. The Tanaro River flows through the midst of these hills, influencing the microclimate that gives rise to the signature autumnal fogs of the Langhe. The name for this wine ‘Nubiola’ comes from the historical treaty of agriculture dated 1330 “De Ruralium Commodorum”, where Pier De Crescenzi (a jurist of Bologna) mentioned one of the best-known vines at that time describing it as a sort of black grape called Nubiola…wonderfully vinous and adapted for winemaking.’ Today, that grape is known as Nebbiolo.
