  • A classic Barbaresco of great mineral expression, with perfumed aromas of red fruit, rose, tea, harmonious oak, and refined tannins, which beautifully frame the palate. The 2020 vintage began as a mild winter with little rainfall and snow. The first part of spring was dry and sunny, which suggested an early vintage. However, May and June were rainy, which slowed development down, but they also provided abundant soil and water reserves for the summer. What set the 2020 vintage apart was the ideal climate during the most crucial stage: September was mild and dry, and this enabled the grapes to thrive and reach perfect ripeness.

Fermentation and skin-contact maceration for around two weeks took place in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures, followed by a period of natural sedimentation. The wine was transferred to wood casks where 50% rested in 50-hl oak casks and 50% in small oak barriques lasting 18 to 20 months. Following blending, the wine received further bottle ageing for nine months before release.

A classic Barbaresco of great mineral expression, it has perfumed aromas of red fruit, rose, and tea, harmonious oak, and refined tannins that beautifully frame the palate.

The Cascina Tolina vineyard is located in the villages of Treiso and Neviglie in DOCG Barbaresco. It covers a single contiguous plot, uncommon in the Langhe, and comprises almost an entire hill, shaped in a natural amphitheatre, with altitudes ranging from 250 to 350 meters. The Guyot-trained vines face south to southeast, providing optimum exposure to sunlight. They were planted in 1950 at a density of 4,000 vines per hectare and in 2001 at 5,000 vines per hectare. The steeper slopes have a harder, more compact subsoil, with a very shallow layer of topsoil that is more vulnerable to erosion. The soils are rich in magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium microelements. They are ideal for producing austere, tannic wines rich in structure and mineral aromas. In short, they are the classic soil suitable for Nebbiolo. Tulin probably refers to someone who owned or lived on this property in the past: in the Piedmontese dialect, the word ‘Tulin’ means a small tin container, and the “tulé” was the tinsmith.
