- A harmonious blend of smoothness and strength showcasing a delightful equilibrium and intricate scents of luscious ripe blackberry, rich cocoa with a hint of toasty warmth, and subtle traces of spicy cedar. The palate is a symphony of flavours, unveiling the lusciousness of boysenberry, the succulence of plum, and the sweetness of a cherry, accompanied by lingering notes of coffee and the subtle allure of cedar from a cigar box. Carefully employing delicate winemaking methods, we have sought to magnify the nuanced flavours, fragrances, and inherent essence of the grapes from the vineyard and vintage. The wine embarked on a natural fermentation journey, guided by the indigenous yeast with periodic gentle submersions and transfers to aid its development. Finally, the wine was tenderly nurtured for 24 months in barrels, with 16% resting in new American oak, 8% in two-year-old Hungarian oak, and 60% in neutral barrels, yielding a symphony of flavours and a delightful aromatic experience.
The gentlest winemaking techniques were employed to maximise flavours, aromas, and the original essence of the grapes from the vineyard and vintage. Spontaneous fermentation took place with natural yeast punch-downs and rackings to help the wine develop. The wine was then barrel-aged for 24 months in 16% new American oak, 8% two-year-old Hungarian oak and 60% neutral barrels.
This smooth yet robust wine shows lovely balance, complex aromas of ripe blackberry and black plum, and hints of fine herbs. The palate is full of black raspberry and wild plum, with notes of spicy pepper and cedar and a lingering finish.

Winery | The Tollini Vineyard is located in Mendocino County's Redwood Valley and has been in the Tollini family for three generations, now in the hands of Alvin Tollini. The Mendo Blendo is made predominantly of Petit Sirah, where the vines are traditionally head-trained and dry-farmed. Alvin Tollini's father and grandfather originally planted the Carignan blocks, and old-vine, low-yielding Carignan remains from the original plantings produce concentrated, flavoursome fruit. Alvin father added to the acreage after he returned from WWII. Alvin planted the Syrah and Grenache using the same time-honoured techniques and sustainable approach, and they add layers of depth, complexity, and balance to the blend. The vines are planted on southwest-facing benches in the Redwood Valley and are cultivated with a meticulously sustainable approach. The only treatment used in the vineyard is sulphur dusting if required, and the vines are harvested by hand. |
