  • On the nose, it is enveloping with intense aromas of ripe fruits, such as blackberry, black cherry, plums and blackcurrant, accompanied by subtle notes of black pepper, toasted coffee and violet aromas. Pleasant balsamic hints emerge, such as liquorice and graphite. The palate is vibrant with velvety tannins. The aromatic complexity persists, harmoniously combining the fruit and spicy notes.

Vinification of the destemmed grapes takes place in temperature-controlled 100 hl oak vats (not above 28° C). Selected yeasts induce fermentation. Depending on the vintage and grape variety, the skins remain in contact with the wine for between 20 and 28 days. The wine then spends approximately 15 months in partly new and second-use French barriques before blending.

Petra has vineyards in 4 locations: Suvereto, Riotorto, Piombino and Massa. Marittima. Every location has a particular terroir and micro-climate, but similar elements tie the vineyards together. The vineyards face the sea on hilly terrain with a distinctly calcareous character. They are rich in ferrous materials that reduce the vine's productivity, giving aptitude for ageing, good

flavour, and excellent propensity for acidity. The characteristic blue clay of the Apennines is present here. This deep clay acts as a water reservoir in the winter and then gradually releases it in the summer months. The yield is low, so it isn't easy to get more
concentrated grapes.
