- The grapes used for this wine are carefully selected from mature plots on elevated terraces with poorly developed, gravelly, calcareous clay soils. As a result, the wine exhibits a vibrant, elegant, and subtle character. It offers a range of nuanced flavours, clear definitions, and an innovative and trendsetting essence. Additionally, it features a complex, smoky profile, adding depth and sophistication to the overall tasting experience.

This starry joint venture was formed in 2004, embarking on a painstaking five-year quest to purchase vineyards in the prime fillet of limestone-rich soils east of Haro before producing its first vintage in 2009. The 92 hectares of old-vine Tempranillo that were eventually selected produce fragrant, concentrated fruit on these poor, well-drained soils. Winemaking, managed as it is by Vega Sicilia, is exemplary, typifying the complex, textural house style while transparently expressing a very different terroir. The results are thrilling.

Winery | Vega Sicilia is Spain’s finest red wine. It is called `Grand Cru Classe` or `First Growth` if you like, located in Spain's Ribera del Duero region. Founded in 1864 and planted with cuttings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec from Bordeaux, along with a clone of Tempranillo, Vega Sicilia began to gather international steam at the beginning of the 20th century. Currently owned by the Alvarez family, the estate ensures its formidable position through its dedication to meticulous vineyard practice, exceptional fruit, and immaculate winemaking. Vega Sicilia continues to fly the flag for ultra-premium Spanish wine, rivalling the best on earth. |
