Chile, nestled between the magnificent Andes and the vast Pacific Ocean, is home to a captivating array of New World red wines. This diverse selection of vines offers an exhilarating journey for wine enthusiasts. While Chile has long been celebrated as the value champion of the world, the recent discovery of new wine regions and their meticulous pairing with specific grape varieties has unlocked a treasure trove of premium possibilities in just a decade.
Viña Perez Cruz
Perez Cruz is a family-owned boutique winery located in the Alto Maipo. Their estate covers 250 hectares of vines planted in one of the most sought-after areas for growing premium Cabernet Sauvignon. This red wine specialist also produces small parcels of Syrah, Cot (Malbec), Carmenère and Petit Verdot. They are certified by Sustainable Wines of Chile. From the first vintage in 2002, Andres Perez Cruz has seen the estate's speciality red wine amass an impressive array of awards and gold medals. Award-winning architect Jose Cruz Ovalle built their eco-friendly winery to fulfil the technical objective of fine wine production. Its wooden roof and natural light allow thermal isolation and free air flow circulation, making it one of the most unique wineries in the world.
Undurraga
Undurraga is one of Chile’s most prestigious wineries, consistently receiving high scores from top wine critics. Founded in 1885, Undurraga owns 1,350 hectares of estate vineyard in Chile’s premium wine-producing areas such as Leyda, Cauquenes and Itata and is certified by Sustainable Wines of Chile. Head winemaker Rafael Urrejola has spent much time researching and understanding the diversity of Chile’s vineyard sites; the result is the emblematic ‘Terroir Hunter’ range. Undurraga cultivates its vineyards with respect for the environment and follows a philosophy of minimal intervention in the cellar to showcase the terroir. In 2023, Rafael became the first Chilean winemaker to be awarded ‘Red Winemaker of the Year 2023' by the prestigious International Wine Challenge (IWC).
