  • An exquisite Nebbiolo with generous notes of red fruit complemented by layers of floral, spicy, menthol, and sweet fruit through to a rich, full palate with an intense finish. 2020 was a cooler year and rated ‘Very Good’. The dry winter was followed by regular spring rainfall, which ensured steady vegetative development. The summer was warm without heat spikes. Overall, 2020 was a very balanced vintage that delivered wines with delicate and well-integrated tannins.

A slow, gentle fermentation lasted around three to four weeks at controlled temperatures of 28°-32°C. The malolactic conversion took place in large Slavonian and French oak casks. Each parcel was processed and aged separately until the selection process, where the parcels from the Barolo vines were selected to be included in the blend of Perbacco and those that would continue ageing to become Barolo Castiglione. Perbacco ageing lasted for 18 to 20 months in oak. Perbacco loosely translates as ‘Eureka!’ in the old Italian dialect.

An exquisite Nebbiolo with generous notes of red fruit complemented by layers of floral, spicy, menthol and sweet fruit through to a rich, full palate with an intense finish.

The grapes for this wine are grown in various selected vineyard sites, mostly from the Barolo area and a minor part from Barbaresco, which, when blended, form the Langhe DOC. The vineyard’s soils consist of marl, a combination of limestone and clay, and the Nebbiolo variety has found its home on the rolling hills of the Langhe. The climate is Mediterranean, with an extended summer and autumn, enabling the fickle Nebbiolo to achieve perfect ripeness. Influence from the Alps, with cool mountainous airstreams, create high diurnal temperature swings, resulting in a long hang time in which the grapes build aromatic complexity and achieve balancing acidity. The vineyard sustains and hand-harvests the vines when each parcel has achieved optimal ripeness.
