The 2016 Baron de Brane is an intriguing blend of 65% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Cabernet Franc. This is the second wine of Château Brane Cantenac, a Second Growth in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855. The name honours Baron Hector de Brane, who owned the estate in the 19th century. Blended from vats carefully selected for their suppleness, it is aged just like the First Wine but for a 12-month period. It exudes lilac, plum, bay leaf, and black tea aromas over a core of warm red currants and ripe black cherries infused with cedar and a swirl of cinnamon. Lovely depth and succulence complement the freshness, fine-grained tannin, and persistent aromatic finish.
Bright, fresh, refined, medium-bodied, and ready to go, this wine has a nice, sweet, lively core of red cherries and plums on the nose and palate. You can drink this now quite easily for pleasure. The wine was made by blending 65% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Cabernet Franc.

| Winery | Château Brane-Cantenac is a well-regarded wine estate based in the Margaux appellation, in the Haut-Médoc region just north of Bordeaux. The estate was ranked second growth in the 1855 Classification of the Médoc and Graves and regularly received praise for its eponymously titled "grand vin". Société Viticole Henri Lurton owns it, and although overseen by Henri Lurton since 1992, the estate has been in the Lurton family for four generations. The estate lies in the southern central region of the Margaux-Cantenac commune, just south of Château Cantenac-Brown and due west of Kirwan and Boyd-Cantenac. Dating back to the 17th Century, Baron Jacques-Maxime de Brane, who gave it his name, purchased the estate after the French Revolution. Through several changes in ownership, the estate became the residence of Lucien Lurton in the 1950s and has been in the Lurton family – a high-profile winemaking dynasty in Bordeaux – ever since. Henri Lurton currently oversees it. The vineyards are planted on sandy, gravel-based soils interspersed with large pebbles. These pebbles retain heat from the sun, and the gravel in the soils allows for excellent water drainage around the vines. |
