Winery | Château de Fonbel is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru red wine made mainly from Merlot, which accounts for 70 percent of the vineyard. It is owned by Alain Vauthier from Château Ausone. The wine also includes some Cabernet Sauvignon (20 per cent of plantings) and Petit Verdot (7 per cent), as well as a small amount (3 per cent of vines) of Carmenère. The latter has begun to gain a toehold in Bordeaux after mainly disappearing in the 20th Century. The vineyard covers 16 hectares on gently sloping sandy-gravel soils on the Saint-Émilion plain. There are no facilities connected to the property. Wines are made at the nearby Château Moulin St. Georges. |
