- The Nebbiolo vine is particularly affected by the small differences in the various soil types. The blend of the grapes from the 14 vineyards stresses the features of the different terroirs, thus creating a complex and balanced wine. The bouquet smells of soft fruits, flowers, delicate spices, and mineral notes. The structure is dense but elegant. It has a lingering finish with refined tannins. Each GAJA Barbaresco is the faithful expression of the production year and is suitable for a long bottle aging. We were delighted to release Barbaresco 2020 on the 21st of September. The wine comes from a vintage described by Wine Advocate as “outstanding”. This release has all the hallmarks of Gaja – purity and elegance with the capability to age gracefully for years to come. This vintage is also particularly approachable now for those who do not want to wait. “So many aromas of fresh rose petals as well as hibiscus tea. Medium-bodied with crunchy and flowery character with sliced strawberries and a bright finish. So appealing with a lovely structure. Chewy at the end. Drinkable but better in three or four years.”

| Winery | 14 vineyards situated in the municipality of Barbaresco. Between 250 and 330m above sea level, the land covers 21.4 hectares. The plants are 40 years old on average. The grapes from every vineyard undergo fermentation, maceration and ageing in oak for 12 months. Then, they are blended and further aged in oak for another 12 months. |
