- The oak's initial dry sensation softens with time. Its noticeable tannins are still fine. About to bloom, its harmonious complexity foretells a promising ageing potential. An elegant Barolo, Dagromis. An expression of two great terroirs of Barolo, La Morra and Serralunga, Dagromis takes its name from the Gromis family, who previously owned one of the vineyards in the blend. The power of Serralunga and the elegance of La Morra create a captivating, intense Barolo, its solid body yielding a rich softness and very long finish.
The grapes from each single vineyard are fermented, macerated, and aged for 12 months completely separately. They are then blended and further aged in oak for another 18 months. Violet, rose petals, and white pepper rise from the glass. The palate has a pleasant freshness with juicy red-orange and grapefruit notes. It is fragrant, medium in body, and well-balanced.

Winery | Today, the Gaja winery comprises 103 hectares of vineyard in the Langhe and is run by Angelo, his wife Lucia, and their children Gaia, Rossana, and Giovanni. The wines have never been better. Since the move back to DOP status for his Cru wines (‘Sorì San Lorenzo’, ‘Costa Russi’ and ‘Sorì Tildìn’ in Barbaresco and ‘Sperss’ in Barolo) from the 2013 vintage, the wines have displayed an inefffable elegance and remain among the very best of the region. The exceptional ‘Spress Barolo is sourced from a vineyard in Serralunga, which neighbours Massolino’s ‘Margheria’ and ‘Vigna Rionda’. It is rivalled only by the ‘Sorì Tildìn’ and ‘Sorì San Lorenzo’ Barbaresco’s, which consistently impress from vintage to vintage. In addition to Gaja’s Nebbiolo-based wines, they also make a very fine Sauvignon Blanc ‘Alteni di Brassica’ and the outstanding ‘Rossj Bass’ and ‘Gaia & Rey’ Chardonnays. |
