- A supple and elegant Barolo with expressive fruit aromas, spicy overtones, and distinctive violet notes typical of the Brunate vineyard through to a liquorice sensation on the long finish. 2018 was a cool year, characterised by a rainy start to the season, especially in April, followed by slightly below-average temperatures through the summer. September brought ideal conditions with perfect diurnal temperature swings, which are important for the phenolic ripening of grapes. 2018 resulted in classic and elegant wines.

The grapes were destemmed and gently crushed before being transferred into stainless steel tanks for fermentation. Using the traditional submerged cap method, they spent three weeks with skin contact, including pre-and post-fermentation maceration. The wine was transferred to oak, where malolactic conversion took place. It was matured for 32 months in large Slavonian and French oak casks and bottled without filtration.

Winery | The grapes are grown in the historical Cru vineyard Brunate in La Morra, south-facing towards Barolo. The vines are planted at 300 to 400 meters above sea level, where they experience good diurnal temperature shifts, which create a long hang time, allowing the grapes to build complexity and retain natural acidity gradually. The average age of the vines is 55 years, and the low-yielding vines are planted at a density of 4,600 vines per hectare and trained according to the Guyot trellis system. The soil is calcareous and clayey with the renowned Marne di Sant’Agata, a limestone-rich marl in which the Nebbiolo variety thrives and produces balanced, elegant wines. The vines are hand-harvested in October when the grapes have reached optimal maturity. |
