- It is a powerful wine with alluring herbaceous tones, tobacco, and pepper aromas. It leads to a robust palate with profound tannins and a taut minerality, leading to a persistent finish. 2019 was a warm year. A dry start into the season was later followed by a good amount of spring rainfall and a hot summer with regular rain. September was a balanced month that allowed full phenolic ripening, resulting in perfectly ripe grapes with great intensity and concentration. It's a great vintage for ageing.

The grapes were gently pressed. Skin-contact fermentation lasted for around four weeks in a steel tank, including pre-and post-ferment maceration involving the traditional submerged-cap method. The malolactic conversion took place in oak, and the wine was matured for 30 months in Slavonian and French oak casks. It was bottled without filtration.

Winery | The grapes come from two hectares of estate vines in the Barolo Cru of “Lazzarito” in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, a fabulous amphitheatre-shaped plot with southwestern exposure. Serralunga d’Alba is the furthest east of the Barolo communes, where the soil is rich in limestone and clay; these soils are some of the oldest in the region, poor, unfertile, and white calcareous, which brings saline minerality and tension to the wine. The estate vines are planted between 330 and 380 meters above sea level. The average age of the Guyot-trained vines is 43 years, and they are planted at a density of around 4,500 vines per hectare. They are cultivated sustainably and are hand-harvested in October. |
