- Classic Barbera with soft red cherry and blackcurrant tones and good freshness on the palate through to a spicy finish. Bright cherry tones combine with aromas of wild raspberries. Smooth on the palate but still with structure and finesse. A very approachable style of Barbera with excellent ripe fruit and a fresh finish.
The grapes were crushed, destemmed, and then fermented with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28 to 30°C. Fermentation was followed by eight days of maceration on the skin with daily pumping over the cap. The natural malolactic conversion took place in the spring following the vintage, and then the wine was left to rest in temperature-controlled tanks for six months prior to being bottled.

Winery | This wine is named after Otto I, Grand Emperor of Saxony, who was one of the protagonists of the legend of Aleramo and the foundation of the Monferrato region. Barbera is Piedmont's most popular vine variety, renowned for its strength and productivity. The compact structure of its clusters makes it easily recognisable, and wines made from Barbera typically present lovely freshness due to the high acidity naturally occurring in this variety. The vines producing this wine are grown in marl clay and sand soils. Established in 1871, San Silvestro has produced DOC and DOCG wines from its estate winery in the Commune of Novello in Piedmont. The traditional varieties are mostly grown in the Langhe and from vineyards in the Roero and the Monferrato regions. Founded by Giovanni Sartirano, San Silvestro has been passed down through four generations, and today, it is run by cousins Paolo and Guido Sartirano. Following the family traditions and ethos, they hold the Equalitas certification for their sustainably cultivated vineyards and produce modern wines that express the Piedmont region's traditional varieties and distinctive terroir. Over the years, San Silvestro has gradually expanded beyond the local market, and their award-winning wines are internationally recognised. |
