Bodegas Pujanza Norte 2018
Bodegas Pujanza Norte 2018
- Country Spain
- Region Rioja
- Grape Tempranillo
- Case 6/75
- A “Singular vineyard” is in direct line with the winds from the north and sits on a terrain in which the limestone bedrock is only 50cm below the surface. These two features, together with the height (720m), give Pujanza Norte notable freshness and acidity, which are maintained one vintage after another due to the consistency of the vineyard. A powerful, mature wine, Norte has a clearly defined personality. Expressive and memorable, it’s drinking beautifully now but will also age gracefully.
- The Wine Advocate: 95 Tim Atkin: 95 “Wine of the Year”
James Suckling: - Guía Proensa:
Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in stainless steel vats.
Cask ageing 16 months in French oak
Intense cherry-red colour with violet glints. Clear and bright.
Pujanza Norte's fruity character is more subtle. Wild berries, spices, and very well-integrated wood are present. The wine's minerality shows the influence of the lime soils from which it comes.
A powerful, full mouth-feel with firm but not aggressive tannins. Lively, but simultaneously showing great balance between body, acidity and alcohol. A fruity aftertaste, highly expressive and persistent.

Winery | In 1998, Carlos San Pedro, still only 25 years old, created Bodegas y Viñedos Pujanza with the idea of returning to their roots. His eyes were fixed on the vineyard, the zone’s growing conditions, and the particular features of each vintage. It was about returning to fresher and more subtle wines with good backbone, elegant wines with a balanced, pleasant mouthfeel, perfect for laying down. New traditional Rioja wines with a distinctive vision as the starting point. |
