- The fragrance of this wine is characterized by a pleasant floral sweetness and hints of tar, orange peel, and spice derived from the Mataro, which harmoniously intertwines with the vibrant, bright red fruit notes of the Grenache. Exhibiting a medium-bodied profile with refined tannins and excellent acidity, focus, and impetus, the 19 GR/M achieves a harmonious equilibrium between the overt fruitiness of the Grenache and the more somber essence of the Mataro.

The grapes come from Sangarra FstateYs Opper Blewitt Aands vineyard, in McLaren ValeYs Blewitt Springs subregion. This vineyard is farmed biodynamically, and the forty’Nve’year’old Grenache and fifteen-year-old Mataro vines are planted on sandy soils over ironstone.
The Grenache and Mataro grapes were harvested by hand on the same day before being co-fermented in one-ton open-top fermenters. The Mataro went in first as whole bunches and it was crushed by foot. The destemmed Grenache then followed on top. The ferment was then hand plunged twice daily over three weeks before being pressed to seasoned litre French oak barrels for twelve months of ageing.
A seamless blend of the cherry and red berry Eavours of Grenache with Mataro's darker, spicier notes. The palate is full and rich, with the tannins providing structure whilst being soft enough to give a supple, elegant finish.

Winery | Brash Higgins is the alias of Brad Hickey, a Chicago native whose wanderlust took him around the world, developing a love of wine and food. On returning to the United States, he ended up in New York, where, following a stint as a food writer, he began crafting wine lists, eventually becoming the wine director for David Bouley’s Michelin-starred empire. Having spent years talking about and selling wine, the next step in the journey was to make it. This led him to leave the Big Apple to work a vintage in McLaren Vale, where the locals gave him his nickname in honour of his larger-than-life personality and big city ways. It was here that the wanderer finally settled, marrying local vigneron Nicole Thorpe, with whom he developed his eponymous label using grapes grown on their own organic Omensetter Vineyard and fruit sourced from like-minded growers. Brad’s lack of formal training has become an advantage, helping him to craft a range of wines that allow his experimental nature and pure instinct for the flavour to shine through. Hickey’s love of travel is also reflected in the labels, with the abbreviated grape names mimicking the international airport codes, which undoubtedly litter his well-travelled suitcases. |
