- A full-flavoured and classic Chenin Blanc with rich and honied aromas of ripe tropical fruits, full of flavour. Inviting aromas of orange blossom and citrus notes lead to a full, rich palate with spicy tones. The lush tropical fruit flavours are underpinned by beautifully integrated oak through to a long butterscotch finish.
The grapes were harvested at optimal phenolic ripeness. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures of 12.5°C, lasting 10 to 14 days. 40% of the wine was barrel fermented in older oak, imparting subtle oak complexity. Ageing occurred on the fine lees for six months in 225-litre French oak barrels.

Winery | The Swartland name originates from a description of the Indigenous "reposters" or rhino bush, which appears to turn black ("Swart" in Afrikaans) during the summer months. This hot, dry climate has an average temperature range of 25°C to 35°C and an annual rainfall of 450 mm and 600mm, but the altitude of these vineyards creates a cool oasis in this arid landscape. Minimal intervention and environmentally friendly farming practices are paramount. The soil types vary, but Malmesbury Shale dominates, with small patches of granite and Table Mountain sandstone. The grapes came from a single vineyard, from 100% bush vines, aged 25 to 30 years. |
