- Rich aromas of toasted nuts and creamy butterscotch notes lead into a finely balanced palate full of intense mineral character and a long, charming finish. The 2020 growing season began with an unusually mild winter, which led to a clement spring. Warm weather during the spring cumulated in an unnaturally warm April, prompting early budburst and flowering. This set the scene for a rapid growing season, with a hot, dry summer and low rainfall resulting in arid conditions. Fortunately, cleansing winds breezed through the vineyards, which helped keep the vines free from disease. Harvest took place earlier than usual due to the warm growing season, and the wines show excellent balance and concentration.
Vinified following a philosophy of minimal intervention. The grapes were immediately pressed to preserve the quality. The must was settled for 36 hours before being transferred by gravity to 228-liter French oak barriques where wild yeast fermentation occurred at temperatures below 23°C to retain freshness and aromatics. The wine was matured on its lees for 12 months in barriques from a blend of forests in Central France, with 50% new oak, 30% first use, and 20% second use, without batonnage

Winery | This Chassagne Montrachet is a blend of three different climates within the appellation, each imparting subtle nuances to the wine in terms of minerality, acidity, and body, resulting in complexity and balance. The old vines are grown in complex, stony clay and limestone soils and are densely planted. Cultivated according to the traditional methods, they are maintained with a large and aerated canopy for sun protection in the warmer vintages of late. They are sustainably farmed with practices such as using fresh compost from local farms to nourish the vines. General treatments include copper and sulfur, and mechanical ploughing occurs to maintain the vineyard soils. Hand-harvested at optimum maturity. |
