A soft entry on the palate is sustained by elegant tannins and an extremely well-balanced finish. Masseria MaIme is ruby red. On the nose, it offers fruity notes of morello cherries and myrtle and pleasant sensations of violets, dog rose, and delicate hints of liquorice. The soft, supple entry follows over to elegant tannins and a very well-balanced finish.
The grapes are harvested in late September and picked fully mature to bring out all the potential of their ripeness. After pressing, the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks at temperatures between 26°-28° centigrade. Skin contact lasts 15 days, and delicate pumping over and “rack and return” techniques are used to favour a gradual and balanced extraction. After being run off its skins, the wine goes immediately into 60-gallon French oak barrels, where it’s put through a complete malolactic fermentation and then aged for 15 months before bottling.
It’s an intense ruby-red colour. The nose presents fruity notes of sour cherries and plums, sweet notes of dog rose, irises, and vanilla, with a slightly spicy note of black pepper on the finish. A soft entry on the palate is sustained by elegant tannins and an extremely well-balanced finish.

Winery | In the mid-1990s, Piero Antinori travelled to Puglia with Renzo Cotarella on an exploratory trip that he says opened their eyes to the area’s potential. “It was immediately clear to us that though this region had a proud history and ancient grapes that dated back to the days of the Magna Graecia, it had yet to blossom fully in oenological terms.” Together, they took the reins of the Tormaresca estate in 2009, championing indigenous grape varieties from the Salento and Primitivo di Manduria DOC area in a new dawn of quality Puglian wine. The estate works with Fiano Pugliese, Negroamaro, Primitivo, and Aglianico – Masseria Maime is regularly one of Puglia’s best. The Chardonnay-ripe Pietra Bianca has been monikered the ‘Cervaro of the south’. Vineyards are planted unusually densely, giving extra depth to otherwise fresh, vibrant and elegant wines thanks to the abundant sunshine and wave-kissed terroir. |
