- Big Red has plenty of blue fruit on the show with a near-even split of Syrah and Merlot from Birdwood. There's a herbal edge and a lovely olive tapenade dusting, a Merlot signature. The tannin extraction has been restrained to keep this in a cool-climate style with plenty of drinkability.

The grapes come from the Birdwood vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, planted on alluvial quartz and clay soils.
Following a seven-day maceration, fermentation occurred in stainless steel using indigenous yeasts without temperature control. Care was taken to avoid over-extraction, allowing the primary fruit to shine. Minimal sulphur was used at bottling.
Bold, spicy, and attractively fresh, this combines the youthful flavours of blueberry with green olives and dried herbs on the long finish. The fine tannins add bite and are balanced by the zippy acidity.

Winery | The Tropo range of wines is produced by Brendan and Laura Carter of Unico Zelo, who are renowned. These wines retain Unico Zelo’s irreverent and fun-loving approach while simultaneously rescuing high-quality parcels of their beloved Adelaide Hills fruit, which may otherwise be lost in larger regional blends. Always quaffable and fruit-forward, yet with an admirable degree of complexity, these are wines to be enjoyed rather than contemplated. |
