Analytical data
dry
The harvest is carried out by hand, with the grapes collected and transported in boxes. Normally, it occurs between the end of September and the first ten days of October, when the grapes have reached an optimum balance between acidity and sugar content.
After a soft pressing, the prime must rapidly cool and undergo static decantation. Fermentation occurs (60%) in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and the rest (40%) in 5000-litre oak casks. About 10-15% of the wine's total volume undergoes malolactic fermentation.
The ageing stage lasts about 12 months, during which the wine remains in contact with its fermentation yeasts. Plenio completes its ageing with a further 6 months in the bottle.
A weighty wine of great finesse. The deep straw yellow colour shows golden hints.
The palate follows through nicely, with a fresh attack and pleasant softness balanced by the rich, velvety alcohol. The long, lingering finish calls to mind apples, plums, and almonds. A long, sapid, and salty finish.
The nose is fresh and penetrating, with light overtones of ripe fruit, honey, bitter almonds, aromatic herbs, balsamic, and a hallmark note of aniseed left by the vineyard of origin.

Winery | The Umani Ronchi story began in 1957 when Gino Umani Ronchi established a small farm in the heart of the Verdicchio Classico region. Just a few years later, the Bianchi-Bernetti family purchased the farm, and although they retained the original name, they certainly put their indelible stamp on it. An early focus on export coupled with a keen eye for expansion opportunities helped them establish Umani Ronchi as the global brand it is today. With 210 hectares under vine in Castelli di Jesi, Conero, and Abruzzo and a dedicated winemaking facility in each region, they have achieved scale whilst retaining an unwavering focus on typicity and quality. The result is a range of wines highlighting both the versatility and the quality potential of the Marche’s and Abruzzo’s native grape varieties. |
