- Refined, rich, and full-bodied with wonderful balance. Soft, silky tannins and a striking hint of almond on the finish envelop Red and dark fruits and oak spice. 2018 was a cool year, characterised by a rainy start to the season, especially in April, followed by slightly below-average temperatures through the summer. September brought ideal conditions with perfect diurnal temperature swings, which are important for the phenolic ripening of grapes. 2018 resulted in classic and elegant wines.

Fermentation lasted around three weeks in a steel vat, with skin contact and regular pump over to oxygenate the wine and extract the colour, flavour compounds, and phenolic structure. This period included a cold soak and a post-fermentation maceration involving the traditional submerged-cap method. The wine was transferred to oak, where malolactic conversion took place. The wine was matured for 30 months in large Slavonian and French oak casks.

Winery | The grapes for this wine come from the ‘Roncaglie’ Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA), which is a specifically delineated vineyard in the municipality of Barbaresco, which has always been recognized as one of the most premium areas. The combination of the limestone and clay-rich soils, the south-to-south-westerly orientation benefits from optimal exposure to the ripening sun, and the elevation at approximately 280 meters above sea level combine to produce beautifully balanced and refined Barbarescos. The average age of Guyot-cultivated vines is around 34 years, and they are planted at a density of around 4,600 vines per hectare. The vines are sustainably cultivated and manually harvested. |
