- An aromatic Arneis shows delicate floral notes, citrus and melon fruit, and mineral overtones. It is beautifully textured, with balancing freshness and an elegant almond note on the finish. 2023 was a warm year. A winter with very little precipitation followed a spring with abundant rainfall, providing sufficient water accumulation for the season to continue. The medium-hot summer had a stable and sunny end to the season, and the quality is very promising.
After destemming and gentle pressing, fermentation took place languidly to maintain the fresh and fruity flavours in steel vats at controlled temperatures of 14-16°C. Halfway through the fermentation, the tank was hermetically sealed to reabsorb a small amount of natural CO2. This wine did not undergo malolactic conversion, retaining balancing crispness. It remained on its lees until bottling, imbuing the wine with a lovely texture.

Winery | The Arneis grapes come from vineyards in the municipality of Santo Stefano Roero in the Roero Arneis DOCG. The tightly undulating, dome-like hills are a geologically distinctive landscape formed by the Cattura del Tanaro (the Tanaro ‘stream capture’), a geomorphic process in which the Tanaro River changed its route about 100,000 years ago. Having been broken down and shuffled about by many millennia of tectonic activity, the clay, limestone, and sand layers alternate slightly chaotically, creating a patchwork of aspects and soil types rich in fossils. The area is influenced by the proximity of the Alps, where cool air is drawn down from the mountains, and the diurnal temperature differences help the vines retain balancing acidity and slowly build intense aromatic profiles from the long hang-time. The Guyot-cultivated vines have an average age of 30 years and are planted at a density of 4,500 to 5,000 vines per hectare. The vineyard is hand-harvested. |
