Herdade do Rocim
Herdade do Rocim is an estate located between Vidigueira and Cuba, in the Lower Alentejo. It comprises 120 hectares, 70 of which are made up of vineyards and 10 hectares of olive trees. Since its inception in 2000, Herdade do Rocim has invested heavily in the vineyards, replanting vines and introducing new varieties. They cultivate the vineyard sustainably and are associated with the Sustainable Program of the Alentejo Viticulture. They are pioneers in ‘amphora wines’, following the ancient traditions of vinification in pots known as ‘Talha’. The vineyard is cultivated manually and minimal intervention is used in the cellar, to produce fresh, elegant and mineral wines. In 2018, Herdade do Rocim was awarded Best Wine Producer by Revista de Vinhos.
Vale de Mata
In 2003, José Ribeiro Vieira purchased a four-hectare vineyard in the foothills of Serra de Aire of Cortes, in the Alta Estremadura, near Lisbon. Vale da Mata is the name of a small, old vineyard in these foothills. It pays tribute to Vieira’s winemaker father, Manuel, who claimed that Vale de Mata was the site where he succeeded in producing his best wines. The Vale de Mata project respects the expression of its terroir, cultivating the vines sustainably and using minimal intervention in the winery. Vale de Mata is a member of the Wines of Alentejo Sustainability programme. Manuel gave this wine its name and his granddaughter Catarina Viera has followed in his footsteps, continuing his winemaking legacy. In 2018, Vale de Mata was awarded Best Wine Producer by Revista de Vinhos.
Soito
Established in 2013, Soito Wines is one of Dão’s youngest and most promising winemaker projects. Driven by their passion for Dão wines, two former teachers, José Carlos and Sandra Soares, embarked on a mission to produce distinctive, characterful wines, which mirrored their passion for wine and captured the essence of the Dão terroir. The family estate of Quinta do Soito, is located in the Beira Alta, in northern central Portugal and has a history of winemaking which dates back over 100 years. Giving it a new lease of life, Jose and Sandra focus on sustainable cultivation, following an ethos of social and environmental responsibility. Quinta do Soito is gaining traction as one of the region’s leading producers, where native Dão grape varieties are skilfully translated into award-winning wines in their state-of-the-art modern winery.
