- Highly aromatic and intense on the nose with pure notes of passion fruit and fig tree leaves, leading to an equally intense, bright palate with opulent fruit and a crisp, persistent finish. 2022 was characterized as a cloudy vintage. Being close to the Sahara Desert, Global warming is becoming more of a concern each year; therefore, having a cloudy vintage was a change that enabled more natural acidity to be retained in the wines. It also encouraged a slow ripening process, resulting in wines with freshness and tension, which was notable in the white grape vineyards close to the Atlantic Ocean, where the temperatures are warm compared to the medium-high altitude vineyards. These cloudy conditions, combined with the influence of ocean breezes, have imparted a fresh, salty character to the vintage.
The grapes were cooled to 5°C before vinification. Sulphur was not added because oxidation occurs more slowly at these temperatures, allowing the winemakers to work without additives. 85% was fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel tanks, with 15% in concrete egg-shaped tanks at 16°C. The wine was aged on its lees, adding complexity and texture.

Winery | Juan Jesus found a few Marmajuelo vines on the island of El Hierro and brought some vine shoots back to Tenerife. After micro-vinification, he was amazed at the result. The Marmajuelo vines grow close to the ocean below 250 metres where the temperatures are consistently between 21 to 23°C all year round and the influence of the sea breeze is constant. The absence of phylloxera in the Canary Islands has preserved many unique varieties, creating an unparalleled viticultural heritage. As a result, the vines are ungrafted, allowing for complete interaction between the plant and soil. The combination of the volcanic soils, the cooling Alisios trade winds, and the island's distinctive microclimates contribute to the wines' extraordinary personalities. The vineyard is managed sustainably without the use of herbicides or synthetic products. Due to the orography of the land, the vineyards are manually cultivated. |
