Winery | The Martin Family has been producing Albariño in the village of Barrantes for generations, initially for local consumption by friends, family, and a few local restaurants. In 1981, Domingo Martin built the current cellar of Bodegas Castro Martin, which has a capacity of 300,000 litres. The bodega is one of the founder members of the Rias Baixas denomination. It has always been a family-owned and managed business and is unique in that every wine it makes is aged for at least 5-6 months on the lees. This technique adds to the complexity of the wine and extends its ageing potential. Casal Caeiro is in the coolest section of the Rías Baixas DO, and the fashionable Albariño grape flourishes there. The eleven hectares of vineyards the estate owns yield a wine of delightful apricot fruit balanced by mineral freshness. Galicia is renowned for its seafood, and this wine has evolved to be a perfect match. |
