Lievlander Chenin Blanc 2023
- Country South Africa
- Region Stellenbosch
- Grape Chenin Blanc
- Case 6/75
- Lievland is one of Stellenbosch’s most historically important farms, and the property in its current form dates back to 1934 when Baron and Baroness Von Stiernhjelm purchased it from Latvia. In late 2017, José Conde and Tyrrel Myburgh, two of the South African wine industry’s leading lights, purchased the estate, and they have since set about an extensive re-planting program and re-constructing the cellars. The farm is located in a favourable position on the north-western slope of Simonsberg Mountain, and its sheltered position, with cooler-than-average conditions for Stellenbosch, is ideal for high-quality wine production.
Lievland is one of the most venerable estates in Stellenbosch; it has recently come under the ownership of two Cape stalwarts, José Stark-Condé and Tyrell Myburgh, who have grand plans to return the property to its illustrious former standing. Their assured touch is already bearing fruit, with the introduction of two Chenin Blancs demonstrating just how versatile this variety can be in the Cape. Lievlander is the junior of the two and is made in a crisp and fruit-forward style, whilst the premium bottling is sourced from older vines and expresses a richer style, perfectly framed by the measured use of oak.
